No check stock. No checkbook.

Print bank-ready checks on plain paper.

SimpleChex prints the whole check — your bank details, payee, amount in words, signature and the MICR line at the bottom — on ordinary white paper with the laser printer you already have.

From blank paper to a deposit-ready check

  1. 1
    Add your bank account once
Routing number, account number and your starting check number. SimpleChex uses them to build the MICR line on every check.
  2. 2
    Write the check
Pick a payee, type the amount. The amount in words fills in automatically, and your saved signature is placed on the line.
  3. 3
    Print at 100% scale
Open the PDF and print on plain letter paper. Turn off "fit to page" so the MICR line lands exactly where bank scanners expect it.
  4. 4
Hand it over or mail it
The recipient deposits it like any other check — mobile deposit, ATM or at the branch.

Why plain paper works

Real E-13B MICR
The routing, account and check number at the bottom are printed in the E-13B font defined by ANSI X9.13 — the same characters on a pre-printed checkbook.
Built for image deposit
Most checks today are deposited as images. What matters is the right characters in the right position, which SimpleChex handles for you.
Any laser printer
Standard toner and plain white paper. If you prefer security paper or pre-printed blank check stock, that works too.
A record of every check
Check history, void and reprint, and an audit log of who printed, emailed or voided each check.

Is it legal to print your own checks?

Yes. In the U.S., a check is valid when it's drawn on a real account you're authorized to use, includes the required information and is signed. Nothing requires it to come from a check printer. Businesses have printed their own checks from accounting software for decades.

What makes a check processable is the MICR line. Without it a bank can't route the check automatically, which is why ordinary accounting software asks you to buy pre-printed stock. SimpleChex prints the MICR line itself, so blank paper is enough.

Frequently asked

Do I need magnetic MICR toner?
For most deposits, no. Checks are overwhelmingly processed as images today, and SimpleChex prints the E-13B characters in the standard position with normal laser toner. If your bank specifically requires magnetic ink, you can still print SimpleChex checks with a MICR toner cartridge.
Will my bank accept checks printed on plain paper?
Yes. The check carries the same information and MICR line as a pre-printed check. We recommend writing a small test check to yourself first so you can see it clear.
What printer settings should I use?
Print the PDF at 100% (actual size), with "fit to page" or "shrink to fit" turned off, on letter-size paper.
Can I print on the check stock I already bought?
Yes. SimpleChex supports standard top-check stock, and you can fine-tune the layout per bank account.
